20240108 Northern Waterthrush, Haybridge Creek, Maldon Essex

20240108 Northern Waterthrush
Seiurus noveboracensis
A New World Warbler that dwells on stagnant wet ground....

20240108 Northern Waterthrush
The light wing loading of a long distance migrant.
Triangular shaped wing as Starling.
Advanced emargination on P7 & P8 obvious.
These create gaps at the wingtip which forces air through the remiges, increasing the generation of lift.

The ultimate pose.

20240108 Dyke at top end of Haybridge Creek
Favoured by Waterthrush.
All the signs of a large twitch over several days....
Excellent level of camoflage here, JboMac would be pleased.
Shame about the dark green rucsack and the pinky brown camera cover though.
Quote of the day:... 'no I don't twitch at weekends due to the fighting..?!?'

20240108 NWaterthrush
Called frequently a sharp and loud 'chi-ink' when moving location.
Would set all alarm bells ringing for a British birder... as the mayor of Hiroshima said...

20240108 The Dyke at Heybridge Creek
By midday the snow began to fall. Time to wrap the days retirement twitch.
